Tai Chi & Qi Gong exercise classes for seniors

The amazing benefits of Tai Chi

What is Tai Chi?

Tai Chi originated in ancient China, as an effective exercise for health and wellbeing. It is a series of gentle, graceful movements designed to exercise the body and clear the mind. This form of exercise is recognised as one of the most effective exercises for the health of mind and body.

What are the main benefits of Tai Chi?

The free-flowing movements of Tai Chi have a self-defence application.  They are designed to help with: reducing stress; improving mood & quality of sleep; increasing strength & endurance; improving balance & cognitive function; as well as reducing pain. Generally, Tai Chi helps people to relax and feel better. Everything improves when you are more relaxed and feeling good about yourself.
Tai Chi is good for mental health as the exercise engages & stimulates the mind due to a series of steps to learn in the practice we offer.
This movement practice is to help strengthen the body’s organs & systems by moving vital life force energy for balance as well as general health & wellbeing.

Is it a suitable exercise for seniors?

The exercise routine is easy to learn and ‘low impact’ so suitable for all ages and most physical conditions. The gentle exercise helps to strengthen muscles while movements support & protect the joints.  Tai Chi focuses on weight transference which improves balance & stability to prevent falls.  Increasing muscular strength helps to protect the joints and reduces pain. Improved flexibility allows for better blood and joint fluid circulation, which can also mean less pain.

Is Tai Chi suitable for people with chronic conditions?

Most people can practice Tai Chi, including those with chronic conditions – upon your Doctor’s advice. Numerous health problems, illnesses and traumatic injuries have improved with regular practice. Tai Chi can assist with health recovery for those experiencing physical conditions or injury.  Anyone with serious health problems, disabilities or pregnancy need to discuss this form of exercise with their Doctor as well as the class instructor who may be able to vary the exercise according to specific needs.

“During the Body Intelligence treatment with Glenda, I experienced a remarkable shift in my state of being – from stress, to peace of mind and calmness. Her caring, wisdom and gentle application of a number of procedures allowed my body and mind to respond and return to balance with ease. Thank you Glenda, for bringing your unique gifts and application to this therapy”.

S. Bennett Brisbane

'Highly intuitive' is the first phrase that comes to mind when I think about Glenda, along with 'thorough and well-prepared'. I've had the pleasure of her expert coaching and whole-hearted contribution to several personal/professional support groups over the past 15 years that we've known each other. I always leave our interactions feeling affirmed and energised, clearer about the past and what it's taught me, and more optimistic as I look to the future. I'm in awe of her ability to respectfully push the boundaries of what I think is possible, and I'm grateful for all of the times she has challenged me to embrace a bigger vision."
